TONIGHT! Thursday, Sept 11@ 7p. 9/11 Memorial at Engel Park followed by the Flotilla of Life-Size Paper Boat Members, Riverkeeper and So Much More! We’re talking Climate Change…
What’s this all about? SeaChange: We All Live Downstream is a participatory voyage down the Hudson River in small boats made of paper – initiated by Brooklyn-based boatbuilding collective Mare Liberum and global climate change activists 350.org. Launching in Troy, NY on August 31, and landing in New York City on the opening day of the first UN Climate Summit being held as part of the 69th Annual UN General Assembly in NYC. Along the way they’ll be convening community assemblies and artistic collaborations to share stories of resistance and resilience – strengthening local networks and collectively planning future collaborations. We will visit sites of existing and planned destructive infrastructure as well as sustainability projects.
Riverkeeper’s Dan Shapley will greet the flotilla and friends at the Ossining Waterfront and give a short talk on Riverkeeper’s water quality program and the threat of crude oil transport down the Hudson. Visual artist Paul Lloyd Sargent (recycledcarbon.com) will follow with a presentation of his ongoing artistic research project “Artificial Corridors,” on (post)industrial pollution in New York’s waterways. Introductory comments – Pamela Boyce Simms with Mid-Atlantic Transition Hub.
Following the talks, OBCC will host a potluck dinner and fishfry. Bring a dish to share and please RSVP at http://www.riverkeeper.org/news-events/events/
